The Regional Heritage Stewardship Program is an initiative of the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Its Intermountain West regional program is conducted in partnership with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums’ Office of Museum Services and Utah Humanities.

In this webinar, Gina Strack and Mahala Ruddell will give an introduction to digitization. The course will focus on comparing in-house with outsourced digitization by balancing best practices with case-study presentations. Content will include information about specifications, available technology, long-term digital preservation, and financial considerations. 


About the Speakers:

Gina Strack has been with the Utah Division of Archives and Records Service since 2002. She is the Digital Archives Manager and administers multiple websites as well as processing historical materials such as vital records. She is a Certified Archivist, has an MLIS from the University of Washington, and holds a certificate as a Digital Archives Specialist.

Mahala Ruddell is an archivist at the Utah Division of Archives and Records Service, working primarily with the Local Government Program. She also serves as executive secretary for the Utah State Historical Records Advisory Board, which provides resources throughout the state for the preservation of and access to Utah's historical records. She has a Master's degree in History from the University of New Hampshire and has worked in archives, special collections, and museums for eight years.
