Abrupt Federal Grant Cuts: Take Action to Support CCAHA
In early April, CCAHA learned that its NEH and IMLS grants were abruptly revoked – a development which presents significant financial challenges to our organization - an immediate loss of $271,000 of anticipated funding for our preservation programs. Together with the termination of $137,000 in client grants for conservation treatment, housing, and imaging, 10% of our 2025 budget is affected.
Without this funding, CCAHA will not be able to provide:
- Technical and topical webinars that reach 1,000 collections care professionals annually, supporting their professional development and fostering community.
- Consultations and assessments that help dozens of collecting organizations prepare long-term preservation strategies and support
- Guidance to museums, libraries and archives in areas with limited access to preservation expertise, including the Deep South, Appalachia and Puerto Rico
- Crucial tools and resources downloaded over 5,000 times last year alone, including a Collections Management Policy Toolkit, and Legacy Guide for succession planning
- Training for emerging professionals at the undergraduate and post-graduate level – initiatives that are critical in nurturing the museum and library workforce
Nearly 50 years ago, the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) was founded with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), recognizing the vital role of cultural heritage for tens of millions of residents in the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. Today, the support of our community is deeply appreciated as we strive to continue our vital work despite these devastating funding cuts. At a time when the preservation of our diverse cultural and historical record is increasingly important, your partnership ensures that this legacy endures for future generations.
