New Program: Our Stuff, Our Stories

Last month, CCAHA piloted a new community outreach project to bring our expert services directly to neighborhoods and community groups across Philadelphia. Our Stuff, Our Stories is a series inspired by the planning efforts of Philadelphia250, a collective of local cultural institutions that aims to "create a people-driven movement" around the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.

As a provider of conservation and preservation services, CCAHA sees its main role in this effort as empowering people to be stewards of their own personal, family, community, and cultural histories. We will do this by offering free preservation consultations, scanning services, rehousing services, and more at host sites throughout the city. The first of our pop-up events was held April 27 in partnership with the African-American Genealogy Group at the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships at Drexel University. We were pleased with the turn-out! See pictures from that day on Instagram, and stay tuned for news of more pop-ups in the coming months.
