Announcing CCAHA's New Museum Facilitation Framework (MFF)
CCAHA is excited to announce The Museum Facilitation Framework (MFF), a new initiative funded by the Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS). Many collecting organizations are making major operational changes: mass deaccessions, mergers with other organizations, mission redesign, and sometimes closure. These changes are destabilizing—they can provoke strong emotions, which left unaddressed, limit productive dialogue and planning, putting collections at risk. In response, MFF will help organizations navigate these major institutional changes while sustaining stakeholder investment and ensuring ongoing collections stewardship. Borrowing from existing conflict resolution and strategic planning models, this new program will consist of facilitated dialogues paired with a customizable toolkit. It will give participants the space to communicate honestly, work through disagreements, foster group investment, think through their options thoroughly, and establish achievable goals, ultimately transforming the ideas generated during the discussions into concrete actions.
Over two years, CCAHA staff, partners, and their advisory panel will collect case studies and resources, design a custom dialogic framework, curate the toolkit, and pilot the program with select sites before its public launch. Work will begin with the distribution of a field-wide survey to help the team get a better picture of which issues are most pressing and which resources are most needed.
To stay in the loop, share information about potential pilot sites, or receive the survey, please sign up for the MFF’s Constant Contact list here. The survey will be distributed later in the year—diverse participation is key, so please consider signing up!
