Debbie Hess Norris
Debra Hess Norris, Chair, Department of Art Conservation at the University of Delaware (UD), and Director of the Winterthur/UD Program in Art Conservation since 1997 has authored 45 articles/ book chapters on the care of photographic materials and has led many preservation initiatives and 165 workshops worldwide from Beijing to Bogota, Beirut, and Benin. In 2018, Norris was named a Francis Alison Scholar, UD’s top faculty honor among other treasured awards from the American Institute for Conservation (AIC), the Foundation for the Advancement of Conservation (FAIC), and Heritage Preservation. In 2024, Norris was honored to be the first conservator to receive the FAIC Forbes Medal that recognizes distinguished contributions to the field of conservation and advancement of the preservation of cultural heritage. She is privileged to have served on the CCAHA Board since 1997; CCAHA was her first employer as a photograph conservator following graduation in 1980!
